Name of Assignment: Physical and Chemical Changes Comic Book
Subject: Chemistry
Facilitator/Teacher: Ms. Shirkhodai
Description of Work/Assignment:
In this project, we had to make a comic book to describe what physical and chemical changes are. My book was about a donut shop who wouldn’t allow customers unless they knew what the changes were.
Which 21st Century Skill do you feel this assignment addresses, and why?
I used a lot of self-directional skills for this project. I had about a week to finish it and other homework got in the way. The other assignments depicted my will to do this project but after pushing myself to get up and finish it, I got it done.
What are you most proud of from this assignment, and why?
I’m most proud of the amount of drawing I did. I am one of those people that hates drawing, this results in my skills being underwhelming to say the least. I drew the same character so many times, I was ready for my hand to fall off.
How did you develop and/or improve upon your 21st Century Skill with this assignment?
I’m working on leaving procrastination behind me. So far, I’m not doing so bad. This is something only I can control and I’ve self-directed myself to stay on task. Although, Lana has been a huge help with resolving my procrastination.
What was most difficult about completing this task?
Again, the drawing. Another hard part was keeping it neat. I could definitely improve on this aspect of the project.
How could you improve this work? If you could start over, what would you do differently?
If I could start over, I’d try to think of a more creative story line. I’d also like to improve on the level of neatness applied.
How does this relate to what you have learned in the past?
I’ve done similar projects in the past along with learning about physical and chemical changes.
How can you apply this to future learning?
I can use this for writing a story line, future Chemistry assignments, and drawing.
Name of Assignment: Capturing a Moment Essay Draft
Subject: English 100
Facilitator/Teacher: Professor Andaluz
Description of Work/Assignment:
For the “Capturing a Moment Essay Draft” we had a few prompts to pick from. My final choice was the following, “Write about a moment in your life where you learned an important lesson.”. I wrote about a political argument I had with a stranger online.
Which 21st Century Skill do you feel this assignment addresses, and why?
I think the best 21st Century Skill to describe this project would be “Interpersonal Skills”, I had to capture the feelings and emotions I felt for this person through descriptions and imagery.
What are you most proud of from this assignment, and why?
I’m most proud of the fact that I was able to turn this in for everyone to read. I had many debates with myself about whether or not this is something I would be willing to share with my classmates.
How did you develop and/or improve upon your 21st Century Skill with this assignment?
I’ve learned a lot about writing in the past 5 weeks and this assignment was no exception. I was able to practice my Interpersonal Skills through writing which I think is pretty unique (especially considering the times).
What was most difficult about completing this task?
Again, I struggled with a feeling of uncertainty because I let myself become extremely vulnerable throughout the essay. Another tough part was getting started, I always have trouble starting work but once I’ve gotten into it, I do fine.
How could you improve this work? If you could start over, what would you do differently?
So, so many ways. That’s the beauty of a draft, I can touch up on a few things or completely rewrite the entire paper. I hope to be more detailed and capture my emotions better instead of simply saying, “I was offended”.
How does this relate to what you have learned in the past?
I’ve written many essays but this one in particular felt as if it were on a new level. I think my writing has vastly improved over the small time I’ve been in English 100. I felt like I could really be myself and have a passive aggressive, sarcastic attitude throughout the draft.
How can you apply this to future learning?
I can use this knowledge for anything. College applications, essays, job opportunities, the possibilities are endless. This knowledge will come in handy whether I’m writing a research paper or a personal essay. I can’t think of anything that can’t be used with this knowledge.

Name of Assignment: EdHesive Scratch Project
Subject: Computer Science Principles
Facilitator/Teacher: Mr. Murali
Description of Work/Assignment:
For this assignment, I had to create a race on Scratch. Scratch is a coding website that offers fun sprites and simple, easy to read code. We had to code two sprites so they would race each other with a random winner each time.
Which 21st Century Skill do you feel this assignment addresses, and why?
I think the best 21st Century Skill to describe this project would be “Thinking and Problem Solving” skills. It took about 4 tries for me to get the code on this correct and to be honest, I’m not too fond of coding. I had to continuously rewrite the code and eventually, I got it right.
What are you most proud of from this assignment, and why?
I’m most proud that I was able to finish this assignment without needing help. As I said, I’m not the biggest fan of coding, but I had fun with this.
How did you develop and/or improve upon your 21st Century Skill with this assignment?
I was able to continue to try to get this right without giving up. I had to think and problem solve in order to complete this assignment.
What was most difficult about completing this task?
The most difficult part of this task was keeping my code organized and neat. This was the main reason that I had trouble completing the assignment.
How could you improve this work? If you could start over, what would you do differently?
I could’ve added more detail to the overall assignment. Potentially more racers, a detailed background, more talking. This was a pretty straightforward assignment, but I could take it to the next level.
How does this relate to what you have learned in the past?
We have worked on coding before, in and outside of this class. The difference was that I never really understood what was going on, I’d just do as I was told without learning the material.
How can you apply this to future learning?
Now that I have a better understanding of code, I can use these skills on future projects along with the possibility of needing to code in future professions.

Name of Assignment: Logic of Advertising
Subject: Geometry
Facilitator/Teacher: Ms. Marsh
Description of Work/Assignment:
For this assignment, I had to relate Conditional statements to advertising. I made a slideshow and turned the ad into a conditional statement.
Which 21st Century Skill do you feel this assignment addresses, and why?
I think the best 21st Century Skill to describe this project would be "Financial, Economic, and Business Literacy". This is because advertising is a big part of our economy. This project allowed me to relate that to Math.
What are you most proud of from this assignment, and why?
I'm proud that I was able to understand this concept. I didn't get what this had to do with math, but this project showed me how it can be implemented into math and the real world.
How did you develop and/or improve upon your 21st Century Skill with this assignment?
I was given the opportunity to advance my Financial, Economic, and Business Literacy skills from this project because I was able to see how it relates to math. I wasn't aware that advertisements used so many strategies (such as conditional statements) to get viewers to purchase their project.
What was most difficult about completing this task?
The most difficult aspect of this project was figuring out how to make the relation between the ad I chose and Conditional statements. Once I was able to make the connection, I could see how Conditional statements are incorporated into all other commercials.
How could you improve this work? If you could start over, what would you do differently?
If I could start over, I'd try relating this to multiple forms of advertisements.
I'd also try to make my slideshow more neat and organized.
How does this relate to what you have learned in the past?
We've been talking about Conditional Statements in Geometry for a few weeks now. I had trouble understanding a certain type of statement called bi-conditional statements. After this project, I feel that I've grasped a larger understanding of the topic.
How can you apply this to future learning?
I can apply this to future studies in Economic. This would also be useful for marketing strategies. Finally, this assignment can help me practice my ability to create slideshows on Google Slides for future tasks

Name of Assignment: Engineering Jobs Presentation
Subject: Principles of Engineering
Facilitator/Teacher: Mr. Murali
Description of Work/Assignment:
In the Engineering Jobs assignment, we were required to research a specific field of engineering. I picked Aerospace Engineering for my topic. I gave a description and introduced what one would need to achieve to work in this field.
Which 21st Century Skill do you feel this assignment addresses, and why?
I thought that Communication Skills were suitable for this assignment. I had to research, write, design, and orally present this slideshow. This project really helped sharpen my communication skills.
What are you most proud of from this assignment, and why?
I am most proud of my presentation. Although I was nervous to speak up in class, I did it regardless with confidence. I thought my oral presentation was clear and concise.
How did you develop and/or improve upon your 21st Century Skill with this assignment?
I got good practice in writing and understanding a new topic. I also got better at presenting. It has never been my strong suit, so this assignment allowed me to implement this skill, ultimately making it easier to present.
What was most difficult about completing this task?
The most difficult part of this assignment was developing an understanding of something I didn’t know anything about before. To do proper research and fully understand the topic at hand.
How could you improve this work? If you could start over, what would you do differently?
If I could start over, I’d try to use more facts about Aerospace engineering. Aerospace engineering really grabbed my attention. I think adding more information and images would make my slideshow more effective and help others gain the interest that I did.
How does this relate to what you have learned in the past?
I’ve made many slideshows in the past. I’ve also taken many other engineering courses. I think what separated this assignment from others were the specifics that were required. I’ve also done many presentations in the past, but I feel that this was one of my better ones.
How can you apply this to future learning?
I can use these skills to help me in my senior presentations and graduation defense. I can also use these skills in jobs that I will obtain in the future.
Name of Assignment: Atomic Model Project
Subject: Chemistry
Facilitator/Teacher: Ms. Shirkhodai
Description of Work/Assignment:
In the atomic model project, students were required to build a 3D model of a given atom. The model would show each energy level, along with the protons, neutrons, and electrons.
Which 21st Century Skill do you feel this assignment addresses, and why?
I think the skill I utilized most was Informational Skills. In order to correctly complete the project, I had to decipher which pieces of information were accurate. After many attempts, I was able to find the right one.
What are you most proud of from this assignment, and why?
I’m most proud of the fact that I was able to complete this project in a timely manner. I typically wait until the final moment to complete projects on the larger scale. In this case, I set a time and a place to make my atom in order to avoid procrastination.
How did you develop and/or improve upon your 21st Century Skill with this assignment?
This project allowed me to learn what reliable sources are. It also showed me what types of sources are not reliable. I was able to practice finding the accurate information and spot what isn’t accurate.
What was most difficult about completing this task?
Personally, I am NOT an artistic person. I’m not considered “neat” or even organized. The most difficult aspect of this project was having the patience to ensure it was as neat as can be.
How could you improve this work? If you could start over, what would you do differently?
In all honesty, my model wasn’t the neatest. If I could improve upon this, I’d take more time to plan out the process and have a strategic formula for completion.
How does this relate to what you have learned in the past?
This project relates to what I have learned in the past because we are doing some form of modeling to show a given object. I also recall doing something similar in 8th grade. The only difference is that this time I feel that I actually understand what I’m making and how it works.
How can you apply this to future learning?
For future learning, I can note what type of things work for me in terms of scheduling and planning.

Name of Assignment: Forum 7 (Culture)
Subject: Sociology 100
Facilitator/Teacher: Professor Perry
Description of Work/Assignment:
In the 7th forum, we had to pick a culture to thoroughly study. Students would answer a series of questions about their culture of choice with clear research.
Which 21st Century Skill do you feel this assignment addresses, and why?
I feel that this is a great example of Global Awareness. Global awareness addresses an understanding of cultures around the world. This is actually a perfect example of global awareness. I demonstrated an understanding of a culture that thrives thousands of miles away from me (across the globe).
What are you most proud of from this assignment, and why?
I am most proud of the amount of research I did. I spent a lot of time ensuring the information was accurate by applying critical thinking skills and sociological mindfulness. I was able to write concisely enough to conserve space while loading my text with valuable information.
How did you develop and/or improve upon your 21st Century Skill with this assignment?
I studied a new culture which allows me to be more aware and respectful of other cultures around the world. It also gave me the opportunity to make connections between my way of living and the Shuar (the culture which I studied) people.
What was most difficult about completing this task?
The most difficult part of this task was cramming an entire culture into 500 words. I felt like I had so much to say, and putting a limit on it made the assignment more difficult. However, the word limit helped me practice summarizing and paraphrasing.
How could you improve this work? If you could start over, what would you do differently?
If I could redo this assignment, I would try to make more space for material objects that were invented by the Shuar. Often times, cultural objects are “colonized” and sold for profit. I see that it is important to educate those who intend to purchase them so they can be culturally aware and respectful.
How does this relate to what you have learned in the past?
This relates to other cultures I have studied and I also learned that it’s usually worth taking a deeper look when it comes to culture.
How can you apply this to future learning?
In future learning, I can use the research and writing practice.

Name of Assignment: Community Engagement Hours
Subject: Community Engagement
Facilitator/Teacher: Mr. Holmes
Description of Work/Assignment:
This assignment required us to contact various non-profits and acquire volunteer hours. We needed a certain amount of hours to get full credit. I volunteered at Akaku Maui Community Media.
Which 21st Century Skill do you feel this assignment addresses, and why?
I think this assignment shows Civic Literacy and Engagement. “Students will participate in government and community.” At Akaku, we broadcasted the mayor’s press conferences. This allowed me to be sociologically mindful as to what’s happening in my community.
What are you most proud of from this assignment, and why?
I am most proud that I stuck to my hours and worked hard while on the job. I did many tasks that I would normally consider to be out of my comfort zone. With time I was able to adapt and become good at them.
How did you develop and/or improve upon your 21st Century Skill with this assignment?
I am more comfortable with participating in community events and being an active helper in professional settings. I also learned a lot about Maui and how the government works in Hawaii.
What was most difficult about completing this task?
The most difficult part of completing this assignment was reaching out to non-profits. Doing so was definitely out of my comfort zone along with being something I’ve never done before.
How could you improve this work? If you could start over, what would you do differently?
In the future, I would try to learn more aspects of the job. I got into writing scripts and doing behind the scenes work. I would be interested in learning how to operate the cameras or even doing projects in the field.
How does this relate to what you have learned in the past?
This isn’t similar to anything I’ve done before, however, I felt like I was applying what I learned in the classroom into real life.
How can you apply this to future learning?
These skills can help me in workplaces that I may apply to in the future. I also know more about the place which I live.
